[History and Culture] 　　 Wuzhong District has a long history and a gathering of talents and cultures. Over three thousand years, the vast land of Wuzhong was once the capital of State Wu in ancient times, and was also the government seats of shires, prefectures and regions in successive dynasties, being the birth place of Wu culture. A great number of historic figures such as Sun Wu the Military Sage, Zhang Xu the Sage of grass script, Yang Huizhi the Sage of Sculpture, Shen Shou the Sage of Embroidery and Fan Zhongyan the famed statesman of the Northern Song Dynasty, Kuai Xiang the great architect of the Ming Dynasty who presiding over the building of the Beijing Imperial Palace and others once lived on tiffs vast land of Wuzhong. The vast land of Wuzhong also has a long history of rice farming, silkworm and mulberry management, boat and ship building, garden architecture as well as industrial, commercial and trading business. The whole district now has 2 State-level historic and cultural famous towns of Luzhi and Mudu, 2 State-level historic and cultural famous villages of Mingyue (Bright Moon) Lough, Jinting (Golden Court) Town and Luxiang (Clan Lu's Lane), East Hill, 3 Jiangsu provincial historic and cultural famous towns of East Hill, Jinting and Guangfu, while Xukou Town was granted the title of " Folk Culture and Art Land of China " . The whole district nowhas in total 91 cultural relic units under the protection of county level and above, among which 7 are cultural relic units under State-level protection, while 16 are cultural relic units under the provincial-level protection.
