◆Convenient Traffic Network 　　 Wuzhong District is located at intersection among province of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai city in the heart of Yangtze River Delta, the most prosperous area in China with city groups most densely distributed, and borders on Suzhou old city proper, Suzhou Industrial Park and Suzhou New & High-Tech Zone. It is 70kin away from Shanghai in the east, 120km away from Hangzhou in the south and 200kinaway from Nanjing, being an important water conservancy and traffic hub of the Yangtze River Delta. At present, it has its main traffic framework with the Suzhou-Jiaxing-Hangzhou Expressway, Suzhou Round-city Expressway southwestern section as well as Suzhou-Shanghai Expressway and Suzhou-Kunshan-Taicang Expressway as its main components, and has its secondary traffic skeleton with the No. 227, 230,343 Provincial Highway, as the State and provincial arteries, and also has the highway network with the 27 district and town highways of Wuzhong Avenue, Oriental Avenue, Dongshan Avenue, Taihu Lake-rim Highway, Dongshan Round-the-Hill Highway and so on as the secondary skeleton and the crisscross village and town roads as the complement. By the end of 2008, the whole district's total mileage of graded highways had reached 1,081 km(except it's municipal roads), and all its subordinating towns (districts) can get access to expressways within 15 rain's drive. The light railway Line 1 under constructed and the planned Line 2,3,4 will tightly connect Suzhou city proper area with Holiday Resort Area, Wuzhong New Town, Wuzhong Economic Development Zone of Wuzhong District separately, thus, the major modern, seamless, joined traffic pattern among Wuzhong District and the other districts of Suzhou will be taken shape. There are dense navigation waterways in the territory, and their total mileage reaches 350.22 kin; among them there are 7 graded navigation routes with the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal included in, the waterway transportation is very convenient to reach the Yangtze and the sea.
